Pit Bulls: Hate ‘Em.
March 28, 2008 at 9:54 pm | In Uncategorized | 1 CommentAs a Reporter of 18 years now, I must confess my HATRED OF PIT BULLS.
Yeah I know some of you got all warm and cuddly about this Breed during the Michael Vick Saga, while I don’t condone raising them to fight them and ultimately kill them. I STILL HATE THEM.
When I get out of the Car in a neighborhood, PIT BULLS are the first thing I look for…ask people who work in the streets, they will tell you the same, when we invision a dangerous dog, the face that comes to mind is one of a PIT BULL.
I have had the misfortune to do stories about PIT BULLS, killing people, attacking people, killing and attacking other animals domestic and wild.
I know cops who shoot PIT BULLS on site!
While working on a story about Frisco’s new interactive website that shows citizens where dangerous dogs are (dogs that have strayed off property and bitten someone) 6 dogs were pictured. 4 of those dogs were PIT BULLS.
Pit Bull owners swear by the breed, they say things like “it’s how you raise them,” “mine plays with my kids,” “they’re so sweet.”
Whatever!
I know not all PIT BULLS fight, I know any dog can bite but any honest assesment of the Breed has to conclude that PIT BULLS are FIGHTING DOGS.
That is what they do and should your dog cross path’s with a PIT BULL or a PIT BULL gets upset with you, any PIT BULL owner will tell you there is a great chance you or your animal will be bitten. Period.
Give me a good mutt anyday! and as far as I’m concerned you can put every PIT BULL on the dangerous dogs list.
It’s a big man’s world, it’s a big man blogging!

I have mixed feelings about the breed, I am all for the bans in some area’s where they need it the most. I don’t hate the bullies , I just think the bans are a good thing to protect the breed from irresponsible owners. IMO The only people that have proper paper work should own the pit, meaning there should be a special registration for the breed, Insurance, confinement laws , all should be micro chipped & Only responsible breeders should be able to breed them for show’s and fee’s should be doubled for not following the laws. I really feel that with striker laws on top of the bans will help the breed recover some – But some other breed will be the next target, maybe the rotti? Maybe shepards?
I know the breed has a bad rap because of the media and people that use them to fight and the number of pits and pit mix’s in the shelters. Pit Lovers say its all how they are raised , In some cases that is not true with any breed, I have seen a German Shepard just snap and almost tear off my step dads arm – He was raised by my grandma & grandpa from 6 wks old – he was 2 when the attack happened. One of my mothers friends used to raise bullies they had one that killed a neighbors horse, A mini pincher attacked another friends child (150 stitch’s in the face & neck) a great Dane breeder I know had a 9 month old Dane attack and maul a 1 year old child. All of these dogs were family raised around kids & lots of people they all got treated very well – never fighting dogs or abused in anyway, So imo how they are raised means nothing to me – The only difference really is these other dogs never made it on the news…or in the papers.
I myself do not trust any dog , I have seen what can happen many times, I would never tell anyone my dogs do not bite or would never hurt a fly – because honest I do not know that for a fact, It only takes a blink of a eye for any dog to snap for a number of reasons, and I will never take that chance. In some cases parents are to blame for a lot of bites IMO. It really ticks me off when someone’s child just walks up to a strange dog and starts to pet it, and worse the dog owners and parents let it happen. I have seen kids in my area where we live just reach threw fences to try to pet people’s dogs, I have seen them chase loose dogs & other animals. Parents need to step up and teach there children some manners, responsibility and some limits when it comes to dogs and other animals that may hurt them. Most kids will think a small dog is a puppy & I honestly believe small dogs bite more than large dogs -
