Let it go!
June 19, 2008 at 5:58 pm | In Uncategorized | Leave a CommentI do love my sports channels. I’m one of those people who can watch an entire game or sporting event and then switch immediately to ESPN and watch highlights/analysis of the same event!
But there is a nasty intrusion on my viewing habits that I simply can’t stand…commercials!
Especially the ads that are geared toward men, I can deal with the erectile dysfunction stuff (old men need love too), the annoying ‘Girls gone Wild’ (again old men need love too!), the latest workout video or prop, “trucks, trucks, trucks, trucks, trucks, trucks, trucks…” you know that one, and of course the 19 year old girl who wants you to text message her, now, for $200 dollars a letter (for the last time old men need love too).
I understand, they have a captive audience, a male viewer, held hostage in his underwear by a couch, remote control, beverage and snacks. I get it.
However I can no longer sit idly by and watch anymore hair replacement/restoration/regrowth commercials. There must be a million different ads for retaining hair bombarding the male viewer with his various options to avoid the fate of BALDNESS! (cause old bald men can’t get no love if you believe those ads)
I’m here to free men everywhere of their fears of BALDNESS! So fellas, if you’re tired of rubbing creams and ointments on your scalp, tired of surgerys, implants, wigs, tired of toupee’s, comb-overs, spray-can hair, if you’re tired of that receeding hair-line that forms a giant BAT-SIGNAL, Horseshoe or spotlight right in the middle of your head, I say to you LET IT GO!
Shave it off, come on down, Join us. Bald men are Ballin! Women like us better than they like you because unless you’re they’re Grandfather, your look ain’t working!
There are great Bald men throughout history, the Dalai Lama, Michael Jordan, George “the animal” Steele (he ate turnbuckles and grunted but he was cool), Mr. Clean! All successful, all smoothly shaven!
Baldness reverses the aging process because without that half-a-hair line you’re sporting, no one will know the Corvette you just bought was a mid-life crisis, if you’re Bald you just look cool!
I prefer to think of mine as sort of a Big Sexy Milk Dud, perhaps a piece of Toffee or just some Chocolaty Goodness! So make up a name for yourself, Cue-Ball, Casper, Moon, Eclipse, Dome, Sunrise, I don’t care, just embrace it cause Bald is Beautiful…and for some of you it’s obviously inevitable.
it’s a big-bald man’s world, it’s a big bald man blogging!
Russert & McKay
June 15, 2008 at 4:07 am | In Uncategorized | Leave a CommentTo their son’s this Father’s day My deepest Condolences. Know that I am among the many young men your Father’s inspired.
Jim McKay on Saturday’s, in my youth in Canton, Ohio was the only white man in the Barbershop as we watched ABC’S Wide World of Sports on the small 13 inch Black and White TV.
Mounted in the corner above the Soda Machine, the Picture would get fuzzy if all the clippers were going at once, a haircut might take a while if Muhammad Ali or some other hero of our era was on. We had to watch and McKay narrated those moments of my coming of age.
Tim Russert helped to fuel my passion for Political coverage and analysis. I can’t count the times on sunday mornings I awoke ready for the Battle that would take place on Meet the Press. Get em Russert! You know he’s lying! I’d be shouting at the TV, and as fast as I could think it, Russert would follow up and nail the evasive Politician, usually with the Politician’s own words. Classic!
I imagine you too are having some great conversation right now, swapping stories and perhaps trying to convince God to give you an exclusive!
No one will ever replace either of you, for us who practice in your profession, we can only aspire…

A Poem for my Father
June 15, 2008 at 3:48 am | In Uncategorized | 2 Comments(Albert Hood McILwain born April 25,1936-died June 18th, 1989)
Gallons of tears have streamed from my eyes,
under thousands of night skies I have questioned why?
Why did you leave me June 18th, 1989?
It was father’s day morning, the day you said goodbye.
I prayed that day it could have been me, that you’d still be alive,
there were no answers, no way for us to reunite.
I just wanted a little more time to say thank you,
Thanks for giving me the nickname boo-boo.
and thanks for always just being you!
Thanks for the honesty and dignity always present in your life.
Thanks for the wisdom in choosing your wife!
Thanks for looking in on me every night.
I know you were sick as a child and cheated death for years,
I’d give almost anything now, for us to watch a game and enjoy a beer.
We still talk, but it’s not the same, with you not here.
I wish I had your confidence when facing my fears.
19 years, I must confess time has failed me,
My grief is still fresh, part of my heart still empty.
Even with a beautiful son of my own who fills me with pride,
Father’s Day, for me remains the day that you died.
The first time I ever saw your father cry.
I yearn to Celebrate this day, I do want to smile,
I guess it’s just going to take me a while.
My hope in the meantime is that I’ve fufilled some of your Dreams,
That somewhere in heaven, your smile just beams.
With the pride of a Father who knows he’s reared a man,
As always your boo boo, is trying to emulate you as best I can.
Loving you and missing you always,
It’s the Son of a Big Man’s world, It’s the Son of a Big Man Blogging!
The Ugly Truth!
June 12, 2008 at 5:16 am | In Uncategorized | 1 CommentHave you heard of Mary Jo Spack? Google her and prepare to be shocked. She’s one of the latest Female Educators charged with having Sex with her students.
We’ve seen it before, there are entire websites devoted to tracking the naughty details of Hot for Teacher moments. The list of women who are giving more than ’extra credit assignments’ to teenage boys is growing daily.
I’m sure there are plenty of Male Teachers who’ve crossed the line too with teenage girls…I bet most of those Men, if the law applied, got some serious Jail time and wear the tag of pedophile for the rest of their lives.
But let’s face it, for the Ladies who in the words of RKelly (he likes em young too) “don’t see nothing wrong, with a little bump and grind,” with their Teen Male lovers, Justice is different.
Mary Kay Letorneau, had a baby with a 13 year old student, went to jail, got paroled, was told to stay away from him, went straight to him, got pregnant again and married him! What male teacher/pedophile has ever done that?
Debra Lefave (google her too) had guy’s wishing they were 13 and in her class! She barley got in trouble, house arrest…but she was by all media obversations considered to be bikini model fine, so her 13 year old Lover wasn’t harmed by the experience, if anything the attitude was ATTABOY!
There have been other’s who are also very attractive Women caught up in Sexual relationships with Teenage students and their attractiveness has earned them Lefave-like celebrity. I actually came across a website that ranked the top 9 female/sex predator/teachers like a baseball lineup!
Mary Jo Spack, is not all that cute (atleast not in her mug shot) and in the superficial, looks are everything world we live in, that and that alone may get the book thrown at her.
Spack took a 17 and 18 year old to a hotel, gave them some liquor and gave them something else! The Liquor was a bad move for sure but atleast her Teen sex partner’s/students had driver’s licenses!
So I’ll be watching the Spack case to see how this one turns out. If Justice is truly blind, she’ll wear an anklet and then be free to appear on Larry King like Lefave and other’s.
But if Justice sneaks a peek under the blindfold and sees Spack is no Hottie, she may soon find herself in the role of the young, fresh thang in the hallway, pursued by older more experienced Teachers…in Prison! That’s the ‘Ugly’ Truth!

McCain vs. Bush ‘08?
June 12, 2008 at 4:22 am | In Uncategorized | Leave a CommentSenator McCain I’m just wondering who you are running against these days? Is it Senator Obama or your former Rival, President Bush?
I wouldn’t ask but lately you’ve been saying things that make me question who the comments are actually intended for, for instance: In response to the Obama Campaign’s charges that your candidacy represents a 3rd Bush Term, you said, “I think he’s running for Carter’s 2nd Term.”
Jimmy Carter? You brought up Carter and you think that Obama’s policies or leadership is a kin to Carter?
Let me see, Bad foreign Policy, Problems in the Middle East (especially Iran) and Record High GAS PRICES? I remember these things defining Carter’s Presidency, Who does that sound like right now?
Seriously, the only thing that separates Bush from Carter these days is the fact that Bush isn’t growing Peanuts on his Ranch in Crawford. Aside from that if the Carter administration was a failure, the Bush administration is certainly it’s equal judged by the previous standards and perhaps dramatically worse.
The thing that truly got me questioning who you are running against is your first advertisement. It’s called “SAFE” and you can find it at www.johnmccain.com click his multi-media link, watch and listen!!!
The first thing you say Senator McCain is:”ONLY A FOOL OR A FRAUD TALKS TOUGH ABOUT WAR.”
That’s not Obama, he’s talking about getting out of the war in Iraq, he’s talking about changing the mentality that got us into the war in the first place, he’s talking about diplomacy and talks even with America’s enemies but he’s not talking ‘tough about war.’
Again that would be your new Buddy, President Bush! Remember when he was asked about U-S occupation of Iraq creating and bringing more Terrorists to Iraq? President Bush’s response: “Bring em on.” Is the President a Fool or a Fraud?

Roy Williams:Cut him, I dare you…
June 12, 2008 at 3:50 am | In Uncategorized | Leave a Comment#31 for the Dallas Cowboys takes a lot of flack from a lot of people who’ve never, ever played football.
I hear it from Newy, I hear it from Talk Radio hosts, I hear it from Sports Columnists (even women) talking badly about Roy Williams as if he’s garbage.
Roy is a Pro Bowler several times over now, he was an All-American in College, what he’s not is an NFL Safety.
I did play some football, for me, as a position player, Roy Williams is more in the mold of what used to be called a Roverback or Monsterback. A guy who plays close to the line of scrimmage, blitzes often and delivers bonecrushing hits to Running Backs, Quarterbacks, and anyone who touches the ball on either side of the line of scrimmage within about a 10 yard radius.
Roy’s game is coming up and dislodging the ball from people, he should always be running forward or sideline to sideline.
It’s when you have him chasing dramatically faster Wide Receivers or very quick Tight Ends, 30-40 yards vertically down field is when there is a problem. That’s not what Roy does! That’s not what Roy did in College! That is a waste of his talents!
Here is my solution, Cut Roy, Jerry. Move Anthony Henry to Strong Safety, Leave Hamlin at Free Safety (pay him, you paid everyone else), put Pacman and T-New on Islands and roll with it. See what happens.
What will happen to #31? Faster than you can say “deer in the headlights” Bill Beli-Cheat will pick up Roy, Plug him in on New England’s Defense, make sure Roy knows exactly where he needs to be on the field and Roy will enjoy another 5-6 years of Pro Bowls and Dislodging Offense Players from the Football!
Beli-Cheat will happily pay any fines for Horse-collaring Running Backs and Roy will rise to Kevin Garnett, Big Papi status in the Greater Boston area.
How sweet would it be for Roy Williams to be wearing Patriot Blue playing in the Superbowl this year against the team that drafted him and the fans/press that turned on him?
So go ahead, Cut Him, I dare you.

My Advice:McCain
June 4, 2008 at 1:37 pm | In Uncategorized | Leave a CommentOh yea, I have advice for the Arizona Senator too. Some of my own observations about Sen. McCain who I think is a very decent man, courageous and actually in this case the best chance Republicans have of even being competitive for the Presidency of the United States.
Sen. McCain, you have to stay true to yourself, to who you really are. Critics will say lots of things about Obama but even his worst detractors will say he always appears to be genuine, he is who he appears to be…young, smart, Idealistic and a Political Animal the likes we only see come along once in a while.
Sen. McCain, you are a Republican in the traditional sense of the Political definition. Smaller Government, Pro-military, Less Taxes, and less Government intrusion into the lives of Americans. You need to stay true to those moderate/center-right instincts that have served you well in your political career.
You are not a Conservative or Neo-Conservative, you hold those folks in disdain and have said as much, calling their leaders “agents of intolerance,” in the past and your numerous moments where you were labeled “Maverick,” came in times where you were openly defiant of so-called Conservative issues or Politicians. You just are not comfortable with many of the leading voices of the Conservative movement and their rhetoric so stay away from them, far, far away! That would include President Bush, your former political opponent who’s campaign smears denied you a chance at POTUS 8 years ago. Let Bush go raise cash for your campaign but the President is toxic, keep him at arms length.
Stop pushing War. Stop claiming that things in Iraq are going swimmingly. Almost no one believes that,(not to mention it sounds like Bush) least of all the Soldiers there who are emailing and calling loved-ones with unending complaints about prolonged deployments and a mission that is not in defense of our Nation.
Run as far as possible from economic policies that don’t make sense to you. You were correct to not support Tax cuts at a time of war, you predicted it would harm the economy, you were right Sir. Now you’ve embraced the policies you opposed…channel your orginal economic instincts and continue to rid your campaign of Lobbyists who are setting policy that goes against your core beliefs.
Immigration:ditto! Stay true to your Arizona roots, you know the contributions of Latinos to your state and their importance to our society, don’t be bullied into talk of building fences and deportation of millions.
Quit inviting Obama to share a stage with you in town hall meetings, it sounds nice but you’ll lose a verbal battle with him. Stick to formal debates, learn your material and stay on message, your message.
Do not play the “experience card” just look at how that turned out for Sen. Clinton. Voter’s are hiring a President and no matter how you slice it, if Obama walked into your office and applied for a Job, any Job, You’d be hard pressed not to consider him a candidate regardless of his age or political inexperience.
At the end of the day Sen. McCain, your candidacy is a referendum on your Political party. You rose from the pack of candidates because you are a real Republican, too many of your party identify themselves only as Conservative and all too often no candidate is Conservative enough for that wing of the party. Infact, that is the problem they have with you right now, they say you aren’t Conservative enough, perhaps the Problem is they aren’t Republican enough. If you turn your back on real Republicans, Moderates and Independents you have turned off YOUR BASE in favor of a Conservative Base that doesn’t like you anyway but has no where to turn now politically.

My Advice:Obama
June 4, 2008 at 12:40 pm | In Uncategorized | Leave a CommentRecent history notwithstanding, I’m still not convinced American’s will elect a Black man to the office of the Presidency of the United States.
Frankly I will believe it when I see it and not a second sooner!
That Sen. Obama has locked up the Democratic Nomination is certainly Historic. He has proven himself to be a leader and effective CEO of a campaign and that counts a lot. The ability to surround yourself with good people and excercise sound judgement is what Voters always say they want in a President, Obama has proven that he can deliver the goods on that.
Obama has also proven that he can articulate a message with profound sincerity. He moves people when he speaks and there are few People or Politicians with that gift.
Looking ahead here is my advice for Obama: Stay away from all Black Churches and Barbershops too for that matter!
These are two places where the conversation on race and politics are often shall I say “uncut,” “unedited.”
Black folks talk badly about some White folks in these institutions of the Black community and clearly if Reverend Wright has taught us anything it’s that White folks had no idea lots of Black People have deep animosity about White’s, Government and basic issues of Justice in America.
I’ve never been to a Black Church or met a Black Pastor anywhere in my 40 years of life who wasn’t absolutely critical in indicting America for it’s orginal sin of Racism and it’s continued impact on the United States.
If yall (and I mean White People) think Rev. Wright’s Comments post 9/11 were harsh, you should’ve heard some the Pastor’s I know after Hurricane Katrina!!! Kanye West has nothing on a Preacher in a Pulpit Sunday morning after Katrina.
What astounds me is that everytime anyone Black says anything remotely critical or controversial anywhere at anytime, Obama will have to answer for it.(note:al and jesse have been silent for months) It’s not fair (white politicians don’t have to meet such a standard) but it is what it is.
Aside from that, your community organizing roots in Chi-town have given you a fearlessness in confronting people, even people who don’t like you. Use that gift and go convince those “hard working white people” in my Home state of Ohio and Pennsylvania (where I attended school) that you can best represent their immediate needs as President.
Continue taking the high ground and do not get baited into angry discussions of wedge issues (voters do not like angry black men, see previous paragraph) and you should be alright.
Clearly you know how to raise money, if you can raise the level of conversation we have about our expectations of Government and unite like-minded voters behind your message, you have a chance to become President of the United States.
I maintain my resolve in saying that I DO NOT believe I will see a Black man elected as President of the United States in my lifetime, call me stubborn, pessimistic, unenlightened or stuck in the past but I will believe it when I see it, and I anxiously await November to be proven right or wrong.

Concession:a definition.
June 4, 2008 at 11:56 am | In Uncategorized | Leave a CommentI looked it up in Webster’s Dictionary, the word Concession means: “the admitting of a point…”
Sen. Clinton, it’s time you admit a point. YOU LOST.
Now it is time for you to do something else, Concede, and muster any grace and dignity you have left to give a glowing endorsement of Sen. Obama and campaign tirelessly for him from now until November.
Last night was shameful, this is not 2000, you are not Al Gore, this is not Florida and you do not have a legitimate reason to continue your campaign.
You lost the majority of states and the majority of votes in the Democratic Presidential Primary. Not liking the math doesn’t change the math. Not liking the media coverage of your campaign doesn’t make the coverage bias.
You campaigned on a motto of being “ready on day 1.” Yet when the time came you weren’t ready. You hired a person to run your Presidential Campaign who had NEVER run a Campaign before! (judgement) You were forced to fire several staffer’s not because of speaking gaffes because of competence. (judgement) You made up a story about ducking “sniper fire.” (judgement) You continually touted your experience and Sen. McCain’s experience, while questioning Sen. Obama’s in a DEMOCRATIC PRIMARY. (judgement) You failed to tell your Husband he is no longer President! (judgement) Your campaign is Broke! (judgement) You and your campaign raised the issue of Race, as it pertains to voters and the ones you choose to represent, “hard working white americans” I believed you called them. (judgement) You ignored smaller states and caucuses. (judgement) You characterized Sen. Obama as “elitist” after months of refusing to release tax returns only to find out you’re worth in excess of $109 million! (judgement)
I could continue my list of observations about the Clinton Campaign for President but there is no need, it appears she’s started another campaign.
Now Sen. Clinton and her supporters want her to be Vice President? Oh yes, it has come from the mouth of the Junior NY Senator herself.
Amazing! Obama repeatedly has talked about changing the politics of Washington, that politicians are caught up in their own power plays and more concerned about leveraging and lobbying for their own causes rather than those of everyday Americans.
Your actions now, to possibly get a spot on the ticket, to get your campaign debt paid and to leverage the power of an election you lost is the very definition of “business as usual” in Washington. It’s certainly not change.
Lastly, even Republicans and certainly Sen. McCain for more than a month now has recognized Sen. Obama as the Presumptive Democratic Nominee for the Presidency. You stand alone, in your defiance of this fact and reluctance to properly, formerly and graciously concede.
Since you clearly haven’t gotten the best advice from your inner-circle over the past 16 months, I offer this…humble up! Accept the loss and publically endorse/campaign with all the enthusiasm and passion you did for your Husband in the 90’s for Sen. Obama or like last night, you will eventually find yourself standing alone, a politician without a Party.
